WARWICK JUNIORS 4- 2 LEAMINGTON LIONS U14CB

POM: Mya

Mya 7', Betty 54'
Warwick Juniors are so far unbeaten in the League with 11 wins and 1 draw.
Having played the Home fixture earlier in October, coming away with a 0-9 defeat along with an injured goalkeeper. With the winter postponements we'd only played 6 matches since. It's fair to say the team wasn't looking forward to this fixture.
After a long delay waiting for the referee, we kicked off and from the start we pressed and took Warwick by surprise. The midfield with Ava, Vicky, Daya, and Betty battled and contained Warwick with any loose ball picked up by our strong defence Sophie, Bethany, Elle Mae and Amelia. Allowing Enaiyah to sit just in front on the back 4 and push forward our attack releasing Betty to assist Mya up front. Only a few minutes played and Elle clean through on goal brought down in a clumsy challenge. Up stepped Sophie to take the free kick 25 yards out just over the crossbar but got the opposition coach flustered. 7 minutes gone and another push from midfield saw Mya take on the keeper to score, prompting the opposition coach to stamp his feet, shrug his shoulders and make 3 immediate changes.
This was not the game Warwick had expected, from the kick off the Warwick substitutions started to break our midfield. The defence held pushing Warwick as wide as possible with Amaia picking up any loose balls and saving several goal bound shots to keep us in the lead. 12 minutes in a lucky break from Warwick shot low levelling the score 1-1.
A quick substitution for us to bring on Lilly and give Vicky a break.
The game continued with several breaks by Warwick all cleared up with the girls all working hard for each other. Each time Warwick tried to break through we were a match for them. Even with Warwick making substitutions every 10 minutes or swapping players around our girls stayed strong. With only 1 sub available and swapping around a few players the hard work put in by all was starting to show. A through ball from Warwick stretched our defence Warwick first to the ball 2-1.
The half continued with several chances for us defended by Warwick. The last 10 minutes of the half saw Warwick make several changes, winning several corners but each one well defended and cleared. Much to the frustration of the opposition coaching staff.
Half time talk and the girls were buzzing tired but upbeat.
Warwick kicked off the 2nd half and immediately pressed forward pushing us back into our half we held off but with 46 minutes gone Warwick scored again. 3-1
We kicked off and pressed Warwick back but they held us out, Several throwin's helped us push further and further into the Warwick half a bit of a scramble resulting in an injury to the Warwick Keeper. After a 5 minute pause the match got back under way and we got caught napping. Just under 50 minutes on the clock Warwick score from a corner 4-1.
Not to be out done with 54 minutes played Betty pushing through several challenges to score, 4-2.
The final 16 minutes and we held Warwick back winning midfield battles against some non lady like challenges.
Final Score 4-2
We took on a team of 16 who expected a very different score line. Had we been able to field a larger squad this game could have had a different outcome.
Games might not always be in our favour and its not always about the result. Its about improvement as individuals and progressing as a team.
