Match Report: U13 14/04/25

Leamington Lions V Stratford Town U13

Leamington Lions V Stratford Town U13

2-0

The Lions started off dominant and continued to dominate for long periods of the match, and through the whole game Stratford could only create a handful of half chances.

The Lions created many chances and after about 10 minutes deservedly scored the first goal. Mia continued to deliver great corners and on this occasion, Amelia was able to get to the first to strike a fantastic volley into the back of the net. With the lead the Lions were able to keep the pressure on and control the game. Stratford defended resolutely, but eventually the pressure led to a second goal. This time Jane took a long throw in which was misjudged by the Stratford defender and pounced on by Amelia. She was able to poke the ball over the goalkeeper as she tried to get there first into the top of the goal. 2-0.

The game continued in the same way with the Lions creating some lovely passing moves and some good chances, but they couldn’t add to their 2-goal lead on the day. Stratford never looked like scoring as the well organised Lions defence were in almost total control.

Some stats for the interested…

After the games today the Lions remain 6th in the league now 16 points clear of 7th and guaranteed to finish in the top 6. Of the teams above us, we have 4 games in hand over CCC and 2 games in hand over GNP and Heath Ballerz. If we continue to perform at the level we have recently, the Lions should leapfrog those teams to reach 3rd in the league by the end, with the chance to finish 2nd if they can beat the solid Alvechurch team when we meet later in the season. After the Lion’s 6th place finish last season, they have all demonstrated significant improvement individually, and as a team to be able to become one of the top teams in the division.
