Match Summary
As the match got closer thus week we started to realise this match was going to be a tough challenge. Playing against a strong Wellesbourne side, made even more difficult by the absence of five players. With only 10 players available, the team had no choice but to pack the defence and work tirelessly to keep our opponents at bay.
Returning home after a prolonged period, the Lions were determined to put in a solid performance. The last meeting between us ended in a hard-fought 3-3 draw, and the team was eager to push Wellesbourne once again.
With Sophie taking on goalkeeping duties in the first half and Lilly stepping in for the second, the Lions showed great resilience. Despite their efforts, Wellesbourne took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The Lions responded brilliantly after the restart, as Betty scored within the first five minutes to reduce the deficit. However, Wellesbourne used their full squad effectively, making key substitutions throughout the game. As fatigue set in for the Lions, the visitors capitalized, netting two more goals to secure a 4-1 victory.
Despite the result, the Lions displayed determination and teamwork against strong opposition. We will take positives from this performance and look ahead to our next challenge.
A big shout-out to all the girls for giving everything. It was a disappointing result, but playing with only 10 players is always difficult. Special thanks to Sophie and Lilly for stepping in to cover for Amaia in goal. With players returning from injury and new signings on the horizon, the team is hopeful for some strong results in the final eight games of the season.
