Match Summary
Playing on a pitch with a slope even Eddie the Eagle Edwards could have taken off from, and with only 10 players available due to an ever-increasing injury list, this was always going to be a challenging game against an equally matched Dosthill side. We even considered drafting in our regular cheerleaders after they led the warm-up! 😂
Despite the adversity, Leamington Lions rose to the occasion, delivering an outstanding performance filled with determination and teamwork.
Leamington struck first, benefiting from an own goal that set the tone for the game. They continued to push forward, with Enaiyah once again bringing along her shooting boots to grab her first goal after 20 minutes. Dosthill battled back, making it a tough contest with strong challenges in both midfield and defence. Bethany, in particular, felt the full force of their attack. Amaia was called into action multiple times, making several key saves, but Dosthill eventually found their breakthrough just as the first half ended.
Early in the second half, Mya added her name to the scoresheet, restoring Leamington’s lead. Dosthill responded with another goal to keep the game tense, but Enaiyah secured her brace to seal a well-earned 4-2 victory.
Late in the second half, Vicky picked up an injury, prompting a tactical reshuffle. With Amaia having little to do in goal and feeling the cold, the team made a bold switch—Lilly stepped into goal, Enaiyah dropped back into defence, and Amaia took up an outfield role. In the final five minutes, Amaia covered every blade of grass with boundless energy, reminiscent of a puppy experiencing its first taste of freedom in a park. 🐶⚡
Despite being short on players and missing several regular defenders, the back line held strong. The entire team showed incredible resilience, composure, and a fighting spirit throughout the match.
It was a fantastic all-round display from a depleted squad, proving that teamwork and determination can overcome any obstacle. 💪🔥
