Leamington Lions U14 3-1 GNP U14

POM: Vicky

PPOM: Betty

Captain: Sophie

Goals: Mya, Cora, Betty (Penalty)

Due to the conditions at Harbury Lane we made the decision late of Friday to make a pitch inspection at Newbold Comyn.

Unfortunately over night Jack Frost didn't get the memo and we woke up to conditions suitable only for polar bears

However as the Sun rose up so did the temperature the frost cleared and by 9.30 we were all set.

Our Leamington Lions U14s put in a fantastic team performance, coming from behind to claim a 3-1 victory over GNP. With standout individual performances across the pitch, the Lions showed resilience, determination, and attacking quality to secure the win.

First Half:

The game started with high intensity, and it was GNP who struck first, taking the lead against the run of play after 12 minutes.

Despite the setback, the Lions kept their composure and worked their way back into the game. Several key saves from Amaia in goal. Elle and Amelia winning the ball and clearing to set up attacks Bethany put in a tireless shift on the wing, battling to win possession and breaking up GNP’s play.

Leamington nearly equalized in spectacular fashion when Sophie attempted a long-range strike from just inside the halfway line. The GNP goalkeeper scrambled back and made a crucial save on the line. Moments later, Sophie tested the keeper again with a well-hit free kick, which forced another brilliant stop.

The breakthrough finally came after several attacks into the GNP half. 34 minutes played, as Leamington equalized through Mya to make it 1-1, setting the stage for a dominant second half.

Second Half:

The Lions took control after the break, with Amelia standing strong in defense, Sophie shutting down several dangerous GNP attacks. Elle showed immense determination, battling for every ball and launching counterattacks with her clearances.

Mya and Betty, despite a tough game up front with several attacking moves breaking down, both kept pushing forward. Leamington’s patience finally paid off in the 54th minute when they took the lead with Cora scrambling to get the ball across the line and in the goal.

Two minutes later, Daya, who had been a force in midfield throughout the game, surged forward and was brought down inside the box, winning a penalty. Betty stepped up and converted from the spot, sealing the 3-1 victory.

A special mention to Willow making her debut and showing great promise winning the ball and almost getting on the score sheet.

Key Moments:

12' – GNP take the lead.

34' – Leamington equalize with Mya

54' – Lions take the lead through Cora
