Match Report: U13 22/03/25

LEAMINGTON LIONS U13 1-1 HEATH BALLERZ U13

The Lions went into this match knowing Heath Ballerz are tough opponents having played them earlier in the season and getting a draw. As the first half developed it was apparent that the Heath Ballerz team were physically stronger. The Lions had a speed advantage and were able to use their pace to create chances. It was also apparent both goalkeepers were accomplished and would be difficult to beat, it would be a game which would be won by the team who took their chances to score.

Through the first half there were chances to score at both ends with Mia, Ava, Darcy, and Amelia making good runs forward through the defence. The Lions got the first goal about 15 minutes into the game when Mia and Holly tracked back to break up a potential Heath Ballerz attack. The ball ended up falling to Holly and she took the chance to pass forward. The ball found its way through the defence, and Jane was able to run on to the ball. Jane was strong enough to hold off the defenders and fired a powerful shot high into the goal past the well positioned goalkeeper.

During the remainder of the second half Heath Ballerz were working hard to get back into the game. They had a few chances, and generally put the Lion’s defence under pressure. Their work was rewarded when their striker got the ball in the box first and fired into the corner of the goal past Ambers full length dive.

During the second half both teams created dangerous situations, but neither could beat the 2 good goalkeepers.

The strength of the Heath Ballerz team enabled them to control the midfield, and the Lions allowed the Heath Ballerz a bit of time in the midfield. These factors combined meant the Heath Ballerz team was able to build pressure and attacking situations with accurate passing and well timed runs. By contrast the Lions were looking to hit Heath Ballerz on the counter attack with pace. Both defences held strong and the game ended 1-1.

Overall Heath Ballerz probably had the majority of possession and played most of the game in the Lions half, but the strong defending and counter attacking style of the Lions meant they always had a chance to steal a win.
