Match Report: U13 15/03/25

LEAMINGTON LIONS U13 11-0 AJAX U13

A Pretty chilly morning despite the sun being present. The Lions were keen to get back to winning ways this week, the performance was notable for the professionalism of the back four in the absence of Emeli who normally runs the defence. In the spirit of the team performance 3 players shared in the Goalkeeping clean sheet, Amber, Natalie and Layah and all deserve credit for their performances in goal and outfield. This match was recorded by VEO so having reviewed the goals we can give a bit more detail on each:

1-0 – The lions were immediately putting Ajax under pressure with a high team press, and they didn’t have any good options from their goal kick. The goal kick was artfully intercepted by Jane who took a couple of touches into the box and struck the ball accurately past the diving keeper into the bottom left corner of the goal.

2-0 – Darcy won the ball in midfield and played a perfect pass infield to Holly who drove forward from her defensive midfield position. Holly battled for the ball in the box and played a short cross to the onrushing Ava. Ava was under heavy pressure but used her strength and balance to pivot around the defender and was able to strike powerfully towards the top right of the goal giving the goalkeeper no chance.

3-0 – Mia struck a good corner and Jane was lurking in front of goal. An Ajax defender tried to clear but Ava was there. She struck the ball high into the top of the net.

4-0 – Holly attacked a high goalkick from the keeper’s hands. She won the ball and ran forward down the centre of the pitch. She had the presence of mind to play the ball forward to Jane. Jane was able to turn her defender on the edge of the box and after a lucky deflection off a defender she was able to roam forward and shoot to the left of the goalkeeper.

5-0 – Layah stopped a promising Ajax attack and played the ball forward up the right wing to Darcy. Darcy ran onto the ball and made a perfect run down the wing finishing with a good cross which the goalkeeper couldn’t deal with. Ava connected with the cross to score her hat trick.

6-0– Early in the second half Amber snuffed out an Ajax attack and passed forward to Scarlet on the right wing. Layah played the balled accurately infield to Darcy who in turn passed first time into Mia’s path. Mia beat 2 defenders and finished her run forward with a great shot beating the goalkeeper at the near post.

7-0 – Amber stopped an Ajax attack and darted forward past 3 Ajax midfielders through the centre of the field. The Ajax defensive clearance was collected by Mya who made a great run down the left wing, cutting infield, and playing a perfectly weighted short pass into Sophie’s path. Sophie drove into the penalty area, and pulled the ball back neatly for Ava. Ava’s control was pounced on by the defence who cleared only as far as Mia on the edge of the box. Her first shot was blocked, but she fired the second shot and it flew into the bottom right corner of the goal.

8-0 – Under pressure from Scarlet on our right wing the Ajax left winger played the ball forward towards Imogen. Imogen played a great lofted ball forward to Mia first time. Mia took 2 touches to round the defender and after a final touch fired the ball powerfully beating the goalkeeper at the near post.

9-0 – After an Ajax goalkick the ball was cleared to Sophie. She ran forward and struck a powerful shot into the right corner of the goal, giving the goalkeeper no chance.

10-0 – Phoebe won the ball infront of the Lions defence and played a pass forward to Jane. Jane was able to turn her defender and run though on goal. She calmly slotted the ball home to the left of the Ajax goalkeeper.

11-0 – From the Ajax centre, Holly intercepted a forward pass and launched the ball high into the Ajax half. Jane got to the ball first and used her strength and speed to run beyond the Ajax defence. Under pressure from a defender, Jane was strong enough to hold off the challenge and shoot low into the left corner of the goal.

All in all a chilled (literally!) match to watch, won’t be so relaxing next week as we face Heath Ballerz!
