Sutton Coldfield 3-3 Leamington Lions U13
Goals:
Amelia ⚽️ assist Mia
Jane ⚽️ no assist
Ava ⚽️ assist Mia
After the long drive to Sutton Coldfield the Lions started the game strong, showing their dominance early on. An early goal came when Mia was able to deliver an excellent low cross for Amelia to flick into the goal from short range. 0-1
The following 20 minutes were dominated by the Lions and the pressure was eventually rewarded when Jane collected the ball in midfield and was able to make one of her trademark strong runs through defence and score, 0-2. More opportunities to score followed, including one chance from a corner which the Lions felt certain that Jane’s ball had crossed the line but the goal was not given by the referee. Even though the Lions had dominated we paid the price for missed chances towards the end of the first half. Sutton Coldfield won a corner which was not well cleared. They worked space at the edge of the box and their shot flew into the top corner to make the game 1-2 at half time.
The Lions made some changes at half time, and couldn’t find their rhythm as the second half developed. Sutton Coldfield scored two goals early in the second half putting the Lions in the unexpected situation of being behind 3-2.
The Lions reverted to a formation similar to the first half for the remainder of the match with Amber going back in goal and although Sutton Coldfield created a couple of dangerous attacks all the best chances came from the Lions. After a frustrating period of missed opportunities with only about 2 minutes left Darcy pressured a Sutton Coldfield player into a mistake, Layah stepped forward to win the ball and play it forward up the right wing to Mia. Mia made one of her famous sprints forward and played a perfect cross to Ava who had just enough time to control the ball and shoot powerfully past the Sutton Coldfield goalkeeper.
The game ended 3-3. The Lions were overall the better team, and created the majority of chances to score. So proud of how the girls demonstrated great strength and determination, digging deep to come from behind to get a draw.
