Match Report: U13 01/03/25

Leamington Lions U13 6-1 Kingshurst U13

Goals:

Jane ⚽️ ⚽️ (No assists)

Amelia ⚽️ ⚽️⚽️⚽️( Darcy x 1 & Ava x 1 assist)

After the obligatory pitch inspection at Harbury Lane and conditions deemed unplayable, we were fortunate that Kingshurst could accommodate us again.

Having beaten Kingshurst 6-2 earlier in the season this was a game the Lions expected to win. During the first period of the match, Jane worked out she could easily out pace the defence and ran through a couple of times only to see her shots saved or struck wide. This set the patten for the first half though and unsurprisingly Jane scored the first goal of the game when she picked the ball up in midfield and ran straight through the centre of the Kingshurst defence and placed a good shot to the side of the goalkeeper. 1-0

About 15 minutes into the game, after an aimless forward pass Darcy chased what looked like a lost cause down the right wing. Amazingly she got to the ball first and was able to fire a ferocious cross into the penalty area. The Kingshurst goalkeeper was there but couldn’t hold on to the ball and Amelia pounced on the loose ball to score the second goal. 2-0

The first half would continue with the Lions in total control. Mia used her pace to good effect in this game and had some good chances to score. She also took some absolutely brilliant corners, although frustratingly the Lions weren’t able to capitalise from them. Including one Amelia controlled brilliantly only to see her accurate shot bounce back off the post.

4 more goals would come in the first half including one for Jane after a short pass by Amelia, and 3 goals for Amelia including one at the end of a lovely passing move by the Lions. It was 6-0 at half time and the game felt over as a contest.

Phoebe & Imogen both took a turn in goal for the second half, giving Amber the opportunity to come out of goal and play left back. During the second half, Amber executed an excellent half volley from a Jane corner which was only just saved by the Kingshurst goalkeeper. (Hopefully next time Amber!)

About 15 minutes from the end Kingshurst won a corner. It was well struck into the 6 yard box and a Kingshurst striker got to the ball first to score the only goal of the second half. This was their reward for fighting hard in the second half. In response to the Lions dominance the Oppo had changed to a more defensive line up which had made the second half much more competitive.

Overall the Lions were way too strong for the Kingshurst team and deserved the comfortable win.
