Match Report: U12JW 15/03/25

Stockton Wildcats U12 6-1 Leamington Lions U12JW

POM: Holly

Goals: Alexia

A first outing for three of our four new players today, and I for one was exceptionally pleased to see we’re now able to make full use of the new subs bench that was kindly donated by Rob and Theia. Starting in a more attacking 3-3-2 formation, our Lions made a really positive start to the match for the first 15 minutes.

An embarrassment of riches on the bench meant that we had lots of options to explore and lots of opportunities to allow the girls to play in different positions. Moving back to a 4-3-1 formation midway through the half kept Stockton at bay close to goal, but moved the challenge outfield for us.

Stockton’s story was one of picking out our goal from distance, and we’ll need to do a bit of work on closing down players quickly to see if we can stop that in future. A super first performance from Sophia in goal and Avaani in defence, and great to see Bhavika trying midfield and defence positions in her first match. Rob and I, still astonished by the distance Stockton’s no.10 could throw the ball, were surprised how quickly the half had gone and despite being 3-0 down the girls were in high spirits and all 12 wanted to go back on.

The second half opened with pressure from us that resulted in a direct free kick which the entire team wanted to take. In the end, Amelia deftly put the ball around Stockton’s wall and forced a tricky save. Can’t guarantee a win in this division, but our Lions can certainly guarantee entertainment this season. Really impressed with solid performances from Holly, Bee, Scarlett, and Imogen today. Moving between defence and midfield positions and holding their positions well.

Holly picked up Coach’s Boot for excellent composure on the ball, great first touches and decisive clearances. Eva, Sophia and Theia brought great energy into the game and made Stockton work hard to contain them. Alexia moved into midfield in the second half and got herself into dangerous positions that enabled her to capitalise when the Stockton defenders and keeper were at sixes and sevens, allowing her to shoot past them from the edge of the penalty area. Super goal.

Thanks to James and Tom for volunteering to assist the ref today, and to all parents for respecting the FA’s Silent Support initiative.

Final score 6 - 1
