Leamington Lions U12JW 0-5 Bedworth United U12
POM: Scarlett
We welcomed Bedworth to a muddy Harbury Lane today. A big thanks up front to Stuart Crutchley from the club for getting out early to inspect the pitches as usual. One of the many things that happen behind the scenes at the club throughout the week to ensure the girls have a good experience.
The first half pretty much belonged to Bedworth. Their players seem to be getting faster and faster each time we meet. Since our last game we have been giving some training focus to playing the ball “into the future”, where the girls try to make the break from midfield by playing passes through the opposition into space and running onto the ball. This is quite a departure from playing passes to each others feet, but it’s a tactic that Bedworth executed well this week and saw them benefit with two early goals before we’d found our (muddy) feet.
With a bit of control back, Imogen and Theia started to make some headway down the wings and some good moves resulted. Imogen with a great run and cross and then Amelia cutting back inside and just putting a shot wide. A great effort to create the chance.
In the second half we started to build from the back a little more and take the sting out of Bedworth’s runs. Scarlet continued to be very busy closing attacks down on the left and really putting in the yards. She kept the pace up throughout and was a worthy recipient of Coach’s Boot this week for all her hard work. Alexia put in another solid performance organising the back four and adapting when it became a back three. And while we didn’t get a goal this week, we had some great chances to reflect upon.
Holly’s run from midfield and shot would have been a surefire Match of the Day highlight reel selection; goal or no goal. So, while we haven’t quite got the hang of football time travel quite yet, I’m sure we’ll get there at some point. In the near future, I expect.
Final score 0 - 5
