Leamington Lions U12JW vs SoccerRockz U11 Starz
POM: Eva
It’s a cliche, but this was one of those game of two halves. SoccerRockz haven’t lost a match so far, so we knew it was going to be a tough one, and our Lions did a great job in the first half to keep the rockers at bay. Sophie was in the action making saves right from the off, and Avaani, Holly, Scarlet and Alexia were busy making clearances and tackles, but the pressure from the rockers was intense for much of the time. Some good runs from Eva and Sophia enabled our defenders to get a bit of a rest. Just before the break, we saw an amazing clearance off the line by Avaani that typified the pressure the girls were under. Two nil down at half time, and the girls could be pretty pleased with how they’d stood up to the challenge so far.
For the second half we changed the formation to 3-2-2, which on the one hand was counter-intuitive to the onslaught we had faced in the first half, however we felt we should try and see if we could hold the ball further up the field. Straight away we saw Amelia with a great lobbed chance that landed just wide, much to her disappointment. Imogen, Holly and Bee swapped between defensive and midfield positions and did their very best to get the ball up field, but the rockers were relentless.
Fatigue soon became a major factor and Rob, Oscar and I could really do with a sit down. The girls were also feeling it, and the rockers were making the most towards the end but it was good to see some stamina on the pitch. Eva fought hard all match, and was rewarded with Coaches Boot this week in recognition.
Thanks to James and Tom for assisting the referee this week, and thanks to Parm for volunteering in the car park.
Final score 0 - 6
