Lots of respect to our opponents who turned up and agreed to play despite only having 8 today, battling through all the way to the end.
We also had a number of players joining Lily on the injured/recovering list today, we hope Palomas netball injury heals up quickly and Belle is feeling better soon. Plus we had a handful of girls still recovering from flu on top of that. So to help bolster numbers (when we still thought oppo was at full strength) we asked Mia G to join us for her first game today. Mia plays Sunday league at Vision FC with Immy and can help us out on Saturdays when we need the numbers. As seen today she has a lot to contribute! Welcome Mia (and Jon providing the vital parental logistics!).
With an edge on numbers the girls got Panjab on the back foot from the word go. Dakota and Lyra were very vibrant up front and kept probing till 4 mins in Kota found Lyra to open up the scoring⚽. The girls were establishing a fairly steady rhythm and started scoring at a regular rate, Lyra doubled up for 2-0, then Chesca, Orly and again Chesca to get the girls to 5 at half time.
Having given the formation a proper run out we cut it down to 8 on the field at half time. We would have done so earlier but wanted to make sure everyone got a proper run around. This gave the game a slightly closer edge as the oppo battled to get a goal in the second half.
Having already shown her attacking intent in the first half, Mia managed to bag a very well struck debut goal only a couple of minutes in the second. ⚽👏🏻 Chesca, Orly and Lyra were all in a race to score a hat trick, with Lyra managing to get to 3 first on 40 minutes. She then showed her team spirit and swapped into goal to allow Jessie a rare opportunity to have a go at outfield (and stay warm😂). Great work from Jessie on the left wing, with her assist for Orly's 3rd goal being a particular highlight 👏🏻⚽.
The girls kept at it till the end, Chesca and the Orly both rounding out great attacking shifts with hat tricks⚽👏🏻, and Rosie, Immy, Kota, Freya, Zariah all unlucky not to add to the score.
Very pleased with the girls professionalism at the end. Obviously bubbling with the excitement after a good game, they took seriously the need to remain calm and give the opposition the respect they deserved. They always do tbf, but sometimes it's especially important. 👏🏻🦁
Captain's Nominations
Another great game from Z, providing a very high standard of play and great example to the rest of the girls👏🏻
Defence
Quiet game in general, Jessie and Lyra mostly just trying to same warm and the full backs being encouraged to push - this left Immy to tidy up at the back. And tidy it was, Immy sweeping up anything near her and sending it back on the counter attack. 👏🏻
Midfield. The area where alot of the action happened today, lots of wing activity, engine work in the middle and link play with the striker. Mia contributed significantly across all of these areas (plus a goal to boot!) and we look forward to more in the future 👏🏻⚽.
Attack
3 hat trick scores 🤩 and a debut goal scorer, so much to choose from! Orly edged it based on creativity and sheer determination (but not by much 😂) 👏🏻💪🏻
Very tough for Z to select the attack nomination and again to choose the final award winner, but Orly's creativity was fired by some grade A determination today, well done Orly 👏🏻🏆.
Go 🦁
