Shamrock FC 3-2 Leamington Lions U10 MR
Captain: Erin
GK: Alicia
POM: Imogen
Goals: Lyla
It was a lovely sunny morning in Coventry and the Lions got off to a fast start with some great attacking play right off the whistle. After a few minutes, Lyla took the ball from the middle of the pitch, up the wing and took a punt on goal from a distance. It sailed past the keeper and the Lions were a goal ahead after only 5 minutes.
Shamrock responded with some attacking play of their own, which was the pattern of the match for these two relatively well-matched teams. Alicia made a good save and the following corner resulted in a shot on goal from Shamrock which was just wide.
The Lions hit back with Imogen taking the ball from a throw in from Lyla, but her shot was just wide as well. Not to worry, as Lyla won the ball back from their goal kick to score again. 0-2 to the Lions.
Lions then needed to defend, which Isla and Molly did well, with some great clearance kicks from both of them. From a Shamrock thrown-in though, they managed to get it across the pitch to send the ball back in towards our goal, from which Shamrock scored: 1-2
In the run up to half time there was some great attacking play from both teams, with Imogen and Erin both causing trouble for their defence. There was a lot of action in front of Shamrock’s goal but unfortunately no goals.
After half time, Shamrock started with intent and there was some resilient defence from Jess to try and keep them out. However, their pressure ultimately resulted in a second goal for Shamrock, meaning the teams were once again level at 2-2.
The Lions did not give up. There were shots from Anaya, Erin, Imogen and Elowen on goal, however none of them found the back of the net. Both teams were working really hard to get the next goal. Erin showed great skill keeping possession of the ball to pass towards goal, Imogen put in some hard defensive tackles, Elowen took a great free kick and Lyla kept trying to score by bringing the ball up her wing. Alicia also helped their efforts with some great goal kicks to help them gain ground.
As the time was almost up, Shamrock had a period of possession and despite some good defence from Molly, Isla and Imogen, Shamrock managed to score a goal by pouncing on loose ball after the goal kick. The game ended just after the Lions had had another goal denied by their keeper saving Lyla’s cross.
It was a close, well-fought match, with a lot to be proud of in terms of both skill and attitude. Well done Lions, on to the next match!!
