Match Report: U10MR 01/03/25

Leamington Lions U10 2 - 1 ARDEN FOREST U10

Captain: Skye

Goals: Lila

PPOM: Isla

What a strong team effort from start to finish!

With freezing temperatures over night and a bit of morning fog the team didn't seem to mind the cold, early start and got stuck in with heads raised and a great energy on the ball.

The opening 10 minutes saw attacking chances from Elowen and Lila, with confidence in possession and accurate passing down both wings. Attempts on goal just going wide or being saved by the keeper to deny Lions and early lead.

The counter attacks from Arden were effectively delt with by Jess showing how much she has grown in skill and confidence tackling and gaining possession to pass to mid field.

Isla was excellent reading the attacking runs from Arden and out sprinting the players with effective interception and passing that switched the direction of play to open up the field for our attacking players to again try and thread it through to goal.

Skye showed such a growth in her confidence to tackle off the ball and close down an attacking player to pass and start a counter attack in her role in the wing.

Confident strong counter attacks by Immy and Lila keeping the ball in a series of tackles resulted in Elowen with a few chances on goal narrowly missing.

The first half showed how hard the team can work on and off the ball to gain and keep possession but unfortunately the score stayed 0:0.

What a restart! The energy to retain and use the possession to get a goal showed on the grit and determination of the restart.

An excellent assist by Immy into the edge of the box enabled Lila to score the first of 2 goals in the first 10 mins of the second half.

Alicia saved a excellent close range shot on target by Arden to keep us with a 2 goal lead.

Elowen finding her pace and skill to run into space allowed her to try several attempts on goal which narrowly missed.

Anaya put great pressure on the Arden attacking runs winning tackles in midfield and disrupting their runs and crossing options with support from Immy to control the play in midfield.

Our players kept their heads and focus after words from the ref to a Arden player. Followed by a spell of great defensive team effort with multiple shoots on target to our goal intercepted and cleared out the box by Erin and Isla

A free kick just out side the area to Arden initially cleared but then passed back in by Arden for a goal meant our girls needed to keep their composure.

The Lions kept up the pressure; with great defensive tackles from Isla and Jess. Skye and Anya shoring up midfield and lots of great runs in possession from Lila and Immy meant that Arden did not have time on the ball to build an effect attack.

It was a tense match, where Leamington Lions had to defend a 2 goal lead for most of the second half but looked able to creat many more opportunities with some creative passing play.

The parents' player of the match went to Isla, who showed speed off the ball, great reading of the game to ensure she was always in the right place for important defensive interceptions throughout the game.

Lila got a special mention for her excellent goals and work ethic on and off the ball. Also, Skye was recognised for her growth in confidence and skill on the wing and in tackles out of possession.

Well done girls, great win 🦁
