STRATFORD TOWN U10 3 - 7 LEAMINGTON LIONS U10MR

Captain: Jess

GK: Anaya

Lila: 2 goals

Alex: 5 goals

PPOM: Alex

It was a cold, wet morning in Stratford, as just 7 girls took the field for the Lions. The game started slowly as both sides were struggling to get warm. As the pace picked up, Leamington began to show themselves as the stronger side. Not long after, Lila scored after a great cross from the side by Elowen. 0-1 to the Lions.

Stratford responded with a period of attack but Isla defended with thought and carefully cleared the ball out to Lila on the wing. More attacking play from Stratford was stopped by tackles from Imogen and Jess and a shot on certain goal was stopped last minute by Isla's persistent defence.

The Lions hit back with a whole team effort to get the ball up to Stratford's goal. A shot by Lila was saved but she got the rebound and scored. 0-2 to Lions.

This was followed not long after by another goal, this time from Alex who took the ball across the pitch and scored with a shot from 10m out. 0-3 to the Lions at half time.

The Lions came back on to the pitch with a determination to keep warm and to keep pushing ahead. Soon there was a big kick from Alex, which hit the post to go in; 0-4.

Stratford upped the pressure too but couldn't successfully make it through for a goal, with Isla, Imogen and Lila all working hard to keep them out. Elowen stole the ball and took it up for a shot at goal which was saved but Alex scored off the rebound; 0-5.

By now everyone was very cold and wet but Stratford didn't give up and scored a goal a from corner cross; 1-5.

Leamington weren't going to let them catch up though and Alex picked up ball from half way and out ran their defence to score again; 1-6.

There was an immediate response from Stratford and they scored 2 good goals in quick succession, managing to get past Anaya, who had bravely stepped into the goalkeeper position today. Score: 3-6.

That wasn't the end of the game though. After a great passage of play from Imogen in midfield to Elowen, there was a series of with shots from Alex, Lila and Imogen. Finally Alex scored her fifth and final goal: 3-7.

It was a horrible day but a great game, with everyone stepping up, playing well as a team and with our new team members Jess and Anaya growing in confidence. Player of the match was Alex for 5 goals, with a show of some amazing skills.
