Leamington Lions U10MR 5-2 Northfield Town U10
Captain: Erin
GK: Alicia
Alex: Hat trick
Imogen: 2 goals
PPOM: Lila
It was a chilly morning for a game of football but the game kicked off with some end to end play to warm everyone up. Northfield Town seemed to be more dangerous at first, making several shots at goal, all of which Alicia saved easily. A free kick gave Alex the ball, who took the ball around the defence, past the keeper who'd come out from the goal and she calmly put the ball in the net. 1 nil to the Lions.
Northfield came back quickly but Isla and Jess in defence did great work pushing them back. Northfield however eventually found the back of the net. 1 all.
This didn't phase the Lions and they started back attacking. It wasn't long before Alex took the ball and made her way through three defenders and scored a great individual goal. 2-1 to Lions! Following this was a period of sustained pressure, with a great on-target shot at goal from Anaya which was well saved by the Northfield keeper.
After half time, it was still end to end. Imogen came back on and brought the ball up field for Alex to complete her hat trick! 3-1 to the Lions. Pressure was maintained and another Lions goal followed quickly from Imogen, taking a throw in and then finding the goal through the defenders. 4-1 to the Lions! Northfield then took the ball back and after some continued attack on our goal, they managed to get past Jess and Skye in defence and scored again. 4-2.
For the final ten minutes of the games, the Lions kept control and maintained pressure, with Erin and Lila both working really hard in mid-field. A pass from Erin went to Imogen, who ran past two defenders to score her second. 5-2 to Lions! Northfield did counterattack, but Isla's defence was strong as it had been through out.
The Lions worked really hard in all areas today against a physical team, which kept attacking until the final whistle. The final score does justice to Lions' determination and effort throughout the game, epitomised by Lila, the parents' player of the match. Go Lions!
