We spoke to some of the girls this morning about what success would mean today and we had plenty of shouts of 4-0!! 😂 We talk about the fact that success is not always just results as a whole and to think about what success could look like to each individual girl and today try and focus on one element of their play to get a win!!! And 100% every single girl contributed today with with that personal win, whether it be an element of physical play, e.g tackles/passes or the mental side in attitude and encouragement.

I could tell we were in for a tough morning seeing size and strength of the opposition, and the first 10 minutes showed that as we got to grips we lots of pushing and shoving which was openly encouraged by their coach.

I was starting to get a little annoyed we weren’t getting any free kicks but was over the moon the referee finally gave the one he did as Lily stepped up to smash 💥 one in the top corner which was what we deserved.

I always ask the girls to help the goalkeeper within games and Giana didn’t disappoint with a fantastic diving save to her right. 😂 sadly the referee wasn’t on the same page and correctly gave a penalty. Rae stood firm and nearly kept out the resulting spot kick but it crept in…..with some cost to her fingers!

In tight competitive games like this work rate is so important all over the pitch we beavered away in attack & defence before Lily settled things with a trademark burst of pace, skill & finish! 💥

Special mentions

Ava & Maeve you were both fantastic today in midfield & defence your maturity in terms of helping organise on the pitch & putting shifts in at the back to get us over the line was magnificent!

Giana, you were not feeling brilliant this morning and sat out the first part of the game but then you stepped out there and put in another fantastic defensive performance with so many clearances & tackles!

Phoebe, amazing in both defence and midfield today, lost count of the forward passes you made! Amazing!

Anya, Leela & Anaiyah! Super wingers working hard in attack & defence. Anya so close to scoring what would have been a contender for goal of the season. The ability to connect with the ball first time from Ava’s great corner was amazing! Leela, great moment in the game was when you stopped the ball on the side line with a bit of a back heal & played a fantastic forward pass was brilliant. Also seeing you ‘grappling’ with the opposition on every corner was amazing 😂 well done for standing firm!! Anaiyah tireless running again getting us up the pitch and working so hard, that energy is critical!!!

Isla, wow! Firstly to catch that in-swinging corner on the line was brilliant when we were under so much pressure! And when I was certain they would equalise in the dying moments you rushed out to save with a leg deflecting it wide for a corner!! That was a good as a GOAL!! You should be super proud!

Rae, you remembered your water bottle! 👍 (it’s a joke! 😂)

POTM Lily! Your skills are always so evident but what made you super amazing today was your ability to block out the pushing & shoving and turn that into positives! Because of your skills & speed you will be kicked every week without fail, and as you learn to take that in your stride & turn that negative energy into your positive energy you become UNSTOPPABLE! Well done because you did that today!!!!!

And well done parents for not being awful & shouting utter garbage out from behind the respect barrier! 😉
