Match Report: U12DH 18/01/25

Leamington Lions U12DH 0 - 0 Cov Red

POM: Bella

PPOM: Penny

Before the match I was chatting with the Cov Red Coach and he was telling me how they had been on a great run of wins in the last 6 games and I've since checked and they scored 24 goals across those 6 games.

Today however we were more than a match and our 10 girls were absolutely superb from front to back, start to finish.

Before the game we talked about communicating, working hard and enjoying it and to a girl they gave everything and it was a thrilling 0-0 game.

Coventry pinned us in our half for periods of the first half but our defence was excellent with Seren, Penny, May and Emily not just winning the ball but being composed and playing us out from the back on a number of occasions.

Coventry are a strong skillful team who move the ball v quickly and the times they did break through but Florence was equal making some good saves and keeping them out first half.

In the second half we had more of the ball and a number of counter attacks. Coventry started to get frustrated and we won some free kicks on the edge of the box. Darcey had a great try from one of those saved well by their keeper.

Our midfield was also excellent today, Jess worked very hard coming in from the wing to support the central midfield and was never put off with hard challenges.

Georgie was tenacious as ever winning the ball and breaking up play as well as creating opportunities for us.

I have to mention Bella who was only going to play a part of the match being her first game back after a few months off but she went straight and her passing and decision making was brilliant.

Lucy played up front and midfield and as every worked extremely hard. We got to see her trademark turn and she put through a fabulous ball that we almost scored off.

Coventry came in waves during the second half and had some opportunities one on one versus Penny but she made a number of brilliant saves to keep them out.

The game was summed up when in one Coventry attack 5-6 of our girls all got back and battled for the ball in the box clearing it to safety.

I'm not sure I've done justice to how fantastic the team display was today but it is probably best demonstrated by the fact that some parents didn't want to vote for one parents player today as the whole team were phenomenal!
