Match Report: U10 22/03/25

WALMLEY COLRON U10 6-0 Leamington Lions U10

Captain: Isla

PPOM: Isla & Lyla

We knew from the first (6:0) defeat the rematch was always going to be test of the girls strength and development.

Alicia started with a mud roll to get ready for a busy game! 💪

With a strong attacking formation, Walmley were quick and clinical from the first whistle. Several long goal kicks from the oppo GK tested the Lions defense who had to be adaptive and countered when they won the ball back.

Walmley's strength was in their first touch control and quick passing which required our girls to be quick on the chase and try to intercept on the run. We showed peserverance in midfield to try and keep possession but unfortunately the Lions were unable to create the space for the elusive shot on goal.

2 goals in quick succession midway in the first half from Walmley did not dampen the effort to chase back and disrupt the opposition advances. Two great saves by Alicia to deny Walmley a 3rd goal after a period of sustained pressure.

An awkward long ball punt from the Walmley GK bounced high and resulted in a penalty for handball, which was duly scored for Walmley's 3rd goal.

A really physical and brave defensive half from the Lions with lots of attacking counters which Walmley thwarted.

HT 3-0 Walmley

At half time we saw the amazing team spirit of the Lions to support each other and refocus to run back on the pitch for the 2nd half. Immediately a shot off the post from Walmley showed their intent and they continued to be really quick to press and force a turnover.

The Lions defended relentlessly for 15 mins but tired legs and a drop of heads after conceding a 4th lead to 2 more unanswered goals before the final whistle.

There was a strong and tenacious defensive effort from Immy, Lyla and Isla today and Alicia save count was into double figures which kept the score respectable 👏

Parents POM went to Lyla and Isla for their huge effort and tenacity to keep running back, putting in the challenges to create a counter attack opportunity.

A really tough game but the Lions showed friendship, resilience and team spirit in defeat which was great to see.

Bring on the next game! Go Lions 🦁
