Match Report: U14CB 18/01/25

SJB JUNIORS U14 0 - 4 LEAMINGTON LIONS U14CB

PPOM: Amelia

POM: Enaiyah

Captain: Sophie

Amelia 4', Enaiyah 17', Amelia 27', Daya 39'

A long awaited game due to all the recent postponements out first match since 14th December brought us to SJB positioned at the end of Birmingham International Airport runway. Literally at the end of the runway lights. This did also mean we had the biggest crowd of the season with over 20000 spectators watching on from 100ft up as each plane made its final approach.

Winning the obligatory rock paper scissors we kicked off and instantly pressed high up the pitch with several early opportunities. 4 minutes played and Amelia made a break from just inside half way bounce off a couple of challenges to smash the ball past the keeper. From the resart we continued to press and at times whilst we started with Enaiyah in front of the 4 defenders our pressing high meant we could afford to keep 3 back allowing Enaiyah to win the ball and press forward supporting our lonestriker Betty. 17 minutes and after several strong attacks Enaiyah strikes low past the keeper to make it 0-2.

All credit to SJB they Continued to battle back with several hard physical challenges which the referee didnt have issue with. Our girls picked themselves up and carried on. SJB started winning several one on one's in the middle getting through our midfield but our defence stayed strong with Bethany, Elle Mae, Sophie and Amelia all making some goal saving challenges. 27 minutes played and just as we thought the game had settled Amelia once again got the ball from deep in our half with space in front of her she pushed into SJB's half shrugging off several challenges to make the game 0-3 a fantastic individual goal. When we asked the girls to play out from the back this wasn't what we had in mind.

Half time quickly approached and the girls had all played hard. Daya, Lilly, Mary and Vicky all playing their part holding the midfield and frustrating SJB. With Betty winning the ball and driving through only to be thwarted by some good defending and goalkeeping. Second half started the same as the first with us winning the ball early and Continuing to drive forwards at times leaving Amelia in defence to clear everything up. Within 5 minutes and after several corners from Sophie SJB cleared only for our Lions to win the ball back and another battle in SJB's box the ball came to Daya to strike past the keeper 0-4.

5 more minutes and Sophies first game back came to and end. Feeling pain in her knee and no substitutions we went down to 10 players for the last 15 minutes. We continued to press and at times got caught with 3 against 1 in defence but Amelia seemed to cover every blade of grass to get any loose ball and clear. With Enaiyah using her pace and dropping back to challenge at times everything that moved inside our half. Our lack of game time showed towards the end with several players having given everything and showing fatigue. Amaia whilst not having to make many saves was there when needed and continued to give instructions to the team helping the positioning of players.

An all round great team performance with some fantastic individual play.

Win loose or draw these Lions always ROAR. Special thanks to all the parents for their continued support.

RESET BRING ON THE NEXT MATCH!
